We've just come back from an amazing
trip to Costa Rica - organised by Tachiz Travel. We don't normally post on Trip
Advisor but really had such a wonderful time, and want to say thank you to
Francisco and Alex at Tachiz!
We spent 2
nights in Tortuguero staying at Mawamba Lodge, which was a stunning place to
visit. River safaris, great tour guide (thanks Frank!) and a lovely hotel with
amazing food. Next to for a night in Arenal at the Arenal Observatory with one
of the best rooms we have ever stayed in looking directly at the Volcano
(double doors in front of the bed!), to wake up to see toucans and coatis right
outside the window. We then had 2 nights in Monteverde staying at the Trapp
family lodge - a lovely hotel right by the park, who really looked after us:)
We found the cloud forest to be truly magical. We then dropped south to the Osa
peninsula, with a night in Manual Antonio on the way (where we saw 5 sloths in
1 afternoon at the park!). Dropped off on the beach we had to walk 45minutes to
reach La Leona Ecolodge for a special 4 nights. The amazing sights and sounds
in the rainforest were incredible, with monkeys, crocodiles, snakes, birds
(including a rare ornate hawk Eagle!). Our super tent had hummingbirds all
around and was right next to the beach, and the chef was the BEST of our whole
trip! We then finished off with 4 nights of luxury at Tikki Villas - a lovely
hotel in the hills near Uvita, where you can truly relax and with the most
helpful staff ever and lovely rooms with views and of the sea and forest. This
really topped off a great trip.. except on the way back to San Jose where we
detoured to San Gerardo de Dota to see (finally) the Quetzel we so wanted to
see!
All in all
an amazing trip - all in 15 days! Given the range of places, the number of
transfers and how much we saw, Tachiz really made it so easy. Everything was organised
perfectly - transfers between each hotel - all spot on time - rooms booked and
tours booked to help us out. And to be met at the airport when we arrived with
a bottle of wine, sweets and a welcome phone call (and one before we left) was
a special touch! Knowing they were on the end of the phone 24/7 was so
reassuring, and when we thought about shifting our itinerary, Francisco was on
the end of the phone and happy to help immediately.
