Carara National Park

Carara National Park is a favorite for anyone interested in the study of tropical biology. The wide variety of diversity and easy access makes this trip one that really pays off. The conservation area has a very special leadership, this is the transition zone between the north dry forest and south rainforest.

Many endangered species live and breed here, as the American crocodile and the purple heart tree. Carara is also considered a sanctuary for the beautiful red Lapa.

The word "Carara" is derived from an Indian term, which supposedly means river full of crocodiles. This area has traditionally been occupied by native Costa Ricans, several indigenous groups allied in the central valley between 300 BC and 1500 AD.

Hundreds of archaeological sites have been excavated here, finding sacred sites like cemeteries whose graves contain various pieces of pottery, stone and jade.
