Las Baulas National Park
440 hectares of this park consists of mangrove swamps in tamarind. There are six known species of mangrove growing in these peaceful shores, where an abundance of black mangrove can be observed, suggesting high concentrations of salt in the marshes of Tamarindo.
Playa Grande is one of the most important for turtle nesting. This is one of the largest turtles and more powerful at sea, spawning from the beaches of Surinam to Malaysia and some individuals have been reported off the coast of Scandinavia. Leatherback arrive in Tamarindo in early October and the season extends until March, with activity in a peak during November and December.
