For spring break at the end of March 2013, my family visited Costa Rica. My wife and I had been there 17 years before. We wanted to recreate the experience for our children. With the help of Alexis and Tachiz Travel www.tachiztravel.com, we did so.

Like most travelers, we started out in San Jose. Tachiz had a driver there for us, waiting when our flight arrived. We stayed at the hotel El Presidente in the middle of the city. It was a great location, allowing us to explore on foot the pedestrian street, the Gold Museum, and other sites. We ended the night with a great dinner at a restaurant owned by Alexis's family.

Early the next day, we traveled to Tortuguero for a visit to Mawamba Lodge. We saw loads of wildlife, did a night forest walk, went tarpon fishing on a charter booked by Tachiz (with Capt. Eddy Brown), and had close encounters with howler monkeys.

After a couple of nights, we went to the Arenal area, staying in rooms with wonderful views of the volcano. We stayed at Montaña de Fuego, enjoying the hot springs on site and hanging out with some great guests with whom we stayed in touch. While in Arenal, we went zip-lining, horseback riding to the waterfall, walking on the Hanging Bridges of Arenal, and white-water rafting on the Rio Balsa. Each day was fantastic.

After a few nights, we flew on a short flight via Nature Air to Quepos and enjoyed a couple of beautiful days at Manuel Antonio National Park. The plane was super small and a real adventure in and of itself. At the park, we saw both squirrel and howler monkeys, plus plenty of other wildlife. We also enjoyed the great water of the Pacific.

On the final day, we went with a driver hired by Tachiz back to San Jose, stopping at Tarcoles Bridge to see the crocs.

Tachiz had things scheduled to the minute. All of our reservations were in place and our transfers were on time, and most meals were included. Every single thing went without a hitch. A couple of times, Alexis even called to check on us. We felt very comfortable, and we were pleased to know that Alexis and Co. had our comfort in mind.

Since returning to the US, I've recommended Tachiz to friends. I can easily recommend to everyone the convenience and personal attention that they give. Enjoy!
