Secrets of Lake Arenal
The Arenal region is well known for its volcano and lake of the same name , so majestic with its pyramid shape . Both are worth the trip to this part of the country . But what do you know Lake Coter or Cote? Tree Or Peace? Or Venado Caverns ? Or the Malekus ? Indeed , few know the story of this place for tourism underdeveloped relative to its neighbor La Fortuna.
This part of the soil has a secret history, past belongs largely to the Malekus Indians, also known under the name of " warlike Indians Cold River " , which some studies are descendants of the Chibcha , the ancient inhabitants of this area north of the country.
The conquistadors discovered the indigenous Malekus 180 years ago , nomadic and lived hidden in the forest. Perfectly well integrated in nature, with which they lived in perfect harmony . Its population has been decimated enough , once in combat , much defending rubber. Of the 16 palenques existed, only 3 name remains Sol , Margarita and Tonjibe . They inhabit around 6oo Malekus distributed among the three communities. Still grow maize , cassava, banana and peach . Fishing on the river , do not hunt and conversely more involved in protecting wildlife. Also live by selling their handicrafts and small ecological and cultural projects.
They retained their language the " Maleku Maleku Jaik " and part of their traditions. Knowledge is passed orally from generation to generation and dates back to the time when they began to inhabit these lands for thousands of years. Some grandparents do not speak Spanish yet , unfortunately their culture and their existence is endangered because of the inbreeding that exists in this small group. So try hereinafter marry outside their tribe and mingle .
Increasingly involved in the " modern" life , but saved well the secrets of some places that are sacred to them . As the Celeste River, the river of turquoise waters , Venado Caverns and the Arenal volcano, which they call " the consecrated mountain." One of the heads Malekus appointed Tafa , used to tour the volcano walk once a month in order to honor this powerful natural force .
Its most prestigious ancestors were buried near the Celeste River at the foot of a majestic tree , an old Ceiba Peitandra for over 450 years. Named Peace Tree , this tree does have a very strong power , it can be experienced if picked up in splendid silence between roots of impressive size, many have felt a strength and peace unspeakable and indescribable ...
Another important shrine is the Cote Lake, which is actually a water-filled volcanic vein. This small heart -shaped lake , surrounded by forest seems outside time, in his presence tranquility and peace that no longer exist in this troubled world of noise and violence called civilization experienced ....
They say that for centuries indigenous groups from different cultures and countries of Central and South America such as Brazil (Amazonia ) and Peru came to Lake Coter to prepare for shamans or rather in our language Medicine Men , known for their wisdom.
A phenomenon observed in this lake and it seems strange in the eyes of the neophyte , is the presence of flying saucers , there is a famous photograph taken in 1971 , considered by experts as the best picture of UFO history , took place at 10,000 feet altitude by professional cartographers who used material. This photograph can be found very easily on the Internet.
Yet occasionally there are strange occurrences , shapes , lights or colors that surprise visitors of the place.
