Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve



The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is owned by the Tropical Science Center, Costa Rican scientific NGO founded in 1962. The purpose of this reserve is to protect valuable biodiversity of this region, protect water sources that supply various rivers of the Pacific and Atlantic, and ensure optimal conditions and quiet in the natural order, with the aim of carrying out scientific studies and educational .

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is famous for being one of the wildlife sanctuaries of the highlights of the New World Tropics. The dwarf forests dramatically sculpted by the wind on the exposed cerrros protected forests contrast with the wind, which majestically tall trees look adorned with orchids, bromeliads, ferns, vines and moss ..

The variable climate and the steep gradient of altitudes have helped produce a very high biodiversity. Reported more than 100 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, 120 species of amphibians and reptiles and 3000 species of plants (among them 420 different types of orchids) and tens of thousands of insect species. This stunning wildlife includes the jaguar, ocelot, the bellbird, tapirs and quetzals.
