Puerto Viejo

Puerto Viejo is located in the Atlantic Ocean beaches in the province of Limón and is a beach paradise for sea lovers. Simply known as Puerto Viejo by the locals and not to be confused with Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui in Heredia. This bustling town lies 34 miles southeast of Puerto Limon, and 10.2 miles south of Cahuita. Puerto Viejo with its unique charm was formerly a small quiet village of fishermen. Becoming increasingly popular, especially with young people and is listed as one of the top destinations in the world for surfing. With a relaxing atmosphere and its unique blend of Latino, Afro-Caribbean and Bribri indigenous cultures, Puerto Viejo is a lovely place to have a fun relaxing vacation.

This village has a variety of bars, discos and restaurants as well as hotels and lodges scattered everywhere with very reasonable prices. The Salsa Brava beach in Puerto Viejo is famous for its fabulous beaches and is a haven for surfers. However, be warned that its waters have a strong rip current, so it is not recommended for swimming. This beach is only for experienced surfers. Aside from surfing, one can also indulge in horseback tours of the area, as well as snorkeling, diving, mountain biking, kayaking or boogie boarding. The beaches of Puerto Viejo are a great place whether you're looking to have a good time or just retire to the sun.
