Punta Leona



Located along the Pacific coast of Central extraordinary of Costa Rica, Punta Leona is vital, 750 acres (300 hectares) of nature reserve. Although it is largely unknown to most visitors, this book is very different and unique in its appeal, as it helps to protect forests in transition, crucial in the country.

Transitional forests Punta Leona preserved, are important areas of life which extends from southwestern forests and dry forests of the northwest, one of the last remaining forests of its kind along the Pacific coast of this country. Established 25 years ago, this book also serves as a research center for birds and mammals. Some 330 species of migratory and native birds live in Punta Leona, including one of the 4 species of bird bell or calandria, quetzals, hummingbirds, toucans, and scarlet macaw, increasingly rare. As such, it is popular with birdwatchers, who roam the three paths of the reserve in search of these fascinating species.

Other creatures found in the reserve include the spider monkey white-faced monkeys, coatis, iguanas, sloths, and a variety of butterflies. Carara National Park is 15 minutes drive, and Manuel Antonio National Park is 2 hours. Punta Leona is located one hour from San Jose.
